Medical outreach
The Club foot clinics programme (for infants with easily correctable club feet), involves no invasive surgery - just plaster of paris casts changed every week for six weeks and Jones, the trained Project worker.
Jones visits centres near the families so they do not need to spend weeks away from their work. He uses one of the Project's motorbikes. Weekly visits are then made to change the plaster of Paris and alter the feet a little at a time, as their young bones grow. After the casts come off a shoe brace must then be worn for 2 months to ensure the feet don't relapse.
The Project needs money for:
- plaster of Paris
- cotton wool
- surgical blades
- local anaesthetic
- splints
- shoes
- motorcycle costs (fuel, repairs, licences, insurance)
- salary of the technician
